Chapter 2 Death to Cassowaries

AJ B. (GM): Alright, you guys drive/fly for a while, seeing various things, including a flock of Cassowary. A leyline storm of in the distance, and at one point a large lumbering shadow on the horizon.
Ambrose Betamax: (oh dear)
(cassowararies are deer peoples natural enemies :O)

Ceukeausraa Krem opens the laser turret on the cassowaries. Instinct.
Ambrose Betamax: (LOL)

Ceukeausraa Krem dead serious.
Ambrose Betamax: (dinner :P)
(cept for me, I’m having that salad I carried out)
Melo: (..what’s a cassowary)
Ambrose Betamax: (its a fat bird)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((It’s a giant blue bird of death and disembowelment.)))
Ambrose Betamax: http://cassowaryrecoveryteam.files.wordpress.com/2011/11/adult-at-etty-bay-c-tony-kennedy.jpg
AJ B. (GM): (its a blue ostrich that fights others of its kind by clawing at each others nuts)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((It’s like an emu, if an emu had babies with a black bear and a velociraptor had babies with those babies.))
Melo: (Oh. So they’re not some strange megadamage creature that’ll rip an APC to shreads?)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Yes they are.))
AJ B. (GM): (roflmao, mutated ones might do that, normal ones as far as Im aware arent MD)
Ambrose Betamax: (I want to train one to be my horse)
AJ B. (GM): (but would still cheerfully attack your apc)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Yes they are.))
Ambrose Betamax: (theyz more dangerous than the ominous shadow)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Cassowaries are totally MD.))
AJ B. (GM): (We need, guns, bullets, a Cassowary, and a distraction to test this theory)
Ambrose Betamax: (Sorry, I’m keeping mine, I’m riding it to the next town)
Melo: (Oh god)
Ambrose Betamax: (me and my giant peahen will take out the whole city before you arrive)
AJ B. (GM): (roflmao, the deer is apparently suicidal, Restrain it Now)

Ceukeausraa Krem opens up on those cassowaries, though. Seriously. Not kidding. This is an IC action.
Ambrose Betamax: (aaaaaw)
AJ B. (GM): (I know, and they are mercilessly slaughtered)

Ceukeausraa Krem will roll to hit to prove this if needed.
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Good.))
((Fucking evil deathbirds.))
Ambrose Betamax: (nuuu my future horses)
AJ B. (GM): (however I do need a piloting roll from you when you decide to do that)

Ambrose Betamax: (oh god, your gonna crash and then get eaten by cassowaries)
AJ B. (GM): Krem manages to ease away from you guys to go off and kill an entire flock of Cassowaries before coming back without any problems.
Ambrose Betamax: (lol)
(thats so mean)
AJ B. (GM): Australia is now .0000000000000001% safer. (I think)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((It is.))
AJ B. (GM): (Im honestly not sure, they mightve gotten into a fight with the demons)
Ambrose Betamax: (look out for the floating road spiders, krem)

Ceukeausraa Krem shoots those, too.

Melo also makes a point of getting his radio back after ensuring the Skycycle has its own built in.
AJ B. (GM): (It does)

Ceukeausraa Krem has Radio:Basic!~

Ambrose Betamax is uh….napping I guess some more :P

Ambrose Betamax was gonna be training his new cassowary but noooooo
AJ B. (GM): Alright, you continue your peacefulish travel as you near the halfway point you notice three things. One: The area around you is glowing a bit more blue then anywhere else so far. Two: There appears to be an obvious pit trap big enough to drive the apc into covered by leaves ahead. Three: off to your right in the distance is something glinting in a recognizable pattern.
Ambrose Betamax: (I’d saw avoid the pit trap, but maybe check if its caught anything I can train as a horse)
AJ B. (GM): (I’m sure you’ll see more of them, and can always bitch Krem out IC to not kill anymore so you can catch one.)

Ceukeausraa Krem would of course radio it in. What’s the point in having eyes in the sky if they’re not being helpful? Two things, though. She’s pretty sure by this point her range gauge is flashing red. She also radios in “See the pit trap ahead?” After all, she doesn’t know that they can all see it.

Ceukeausraa Krem also mentions that “I need to store my bike anyway. Can you pull off?”
Ambrose Betamax: (even if we stop near that pit trap, whoever dug it could still be about)
AJ B. (GM): (for the record the glinting thing is glinting S.O.S)
Ambrose Betamax: (Oh, lets go over there and help then ;o;)
(maybe they have pre-trained cassowaries)

Melo would stop, o’corse, and make room for the other bike in the back of the APC. “Thanks for the heads up. We got someone asking for help over there.” A wave was given at the flashing light.
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Swear to God, Ambrose…))
Ambrose Betamax: (wat? you cant tell me that wouldnt be awesome)

Melo would also eventually want to do a quick general search of the APC to see what, if anything, has been stored on board for general purpose use.
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((I’m going to put it in a microwave and have it for Thanksgiving. That still exist?))
AJ B. (GM): (Eccentric Refrigerator Magnate who always rides in on a Cassowary)
Ambrose Betamax: (but my future horse and companion)
(omg I have to paint that now
Melo: (Is going to be shot dead if its a giant bird. Or its going to say “Wark” a lot.)
Ambrose Betamax: (ambrose betamax and His pet Cassowary, named “laserdiscus”
Melo: (HA!)
Ambrose Betamax: (and it will say wark. on command,)
AJ B. (GM): (alright guys its 10 pm, and we’ve made good progress, I think thats a good place to call it)
Ambrose Betamax: (okies ^)
Melo: (Yep. Lots of fun was had tonight.)
Ambrose Betamax: I’m gonna eat and doodle ambrose riding a cassowary
Melo: (Sad we killed 2 people though)
Ambrose Betamax: (we dont know that we killed them really)
(for all we know they were ALREADY DED)
(dun dun DUN)
AJ B. (GM): 150 xp each, and extra 50 for “ending a minor threat” to Krem, an extra 30 to Melo for playing to his alignment, and an extra 40 to Ambrose for how much I ended up laughing at his antics.
Ambrose Betamax: ^

where do I put it on the sheet? :3
Melo: (Haha. Yay. Also, did you ever do totalsfor last week?)
Ambrose Betamax: Oh, no I didnt
AJ B. (GM): (next to where it says level it has two boxes with a / between
Ambrose Betamax: ok
AJ B. (GM): the first part should be current xp, the second should be total for next level
we’ll get your sheet fully squared away before next game.
Ambrose Betamax: right now it/s 1/1 so I must have levelled up :P
AJ B. (GM): lol you wish
100 each for last week
Ambrose Betamax: how much do I need for the next level?
Zea: Thank ya.
4250-ish
Depends on class / RCC
Ambrose Betamax: oh ^
thanks for laughing at my antics btw :3
AJ B. (GM): 3750 Ambrose
Ambrose Betamax: thanks ^

AJ B. (GM): Vagabonds are a bit easier to level.
So before everyone heads off though, a couple questions
Ambrose Betamax: okies ^
Ceukeausraa Krem: 3 broken rifles, 1 functional one, 4 laser pistols, 4 knives, 4 Neuromacesm right?
AJ B. (GM): First, anyone object to me finding a 4th for your party? Correct Krem. Second, is there anything you guys want to see more or less of in these games?
Ambrose Betamax: I dont object at all to the party thing ^

And more rideable giant aggressive birds please
Zea: 4 nural maces
4 knives
4 laser pistols
3 busted rifles (With e-clips)
1 working rfile
Zea: 5 “X” keys – Pert Gov. APC / Mountniers
1 “K” Key – Dragonfly Key
3 “H” Key – Hovercycle Key
1 “G” Key – Skycycle Key
And I’d love a 4th, to be honest.
AJ B. (GM): aggressive is so beyond an understatement lol
Ambrose Betamax: I’d tame it :P
I’m a freaking aboriginal deer I can d oeet
Zea: You’d re-roll, you mean. nod
Your instinct is to run away
Ambrose Betamax: I have suppress fear psychic power babeh
AJ B. (GM): and correct on the keys list.
Ambrose Betamax: As long as I’m allowed to be silly I’m happy, AJ ^
Ceukeausraa Krem: You’ve already got my opinion on everything :3
AJ B. (GM): yep
Ambrose Betamax: I would like to ask for some rediculousness, but I can make that happen I’m sure :P
Zea: As far as what I’d like to see, I’m enjoying what we’ve got going.
Ceukeausraa Krem: Yeah, I loved it. If we could have a game like this every time for any amount of time, it’d be awesome.
Ambrose Betamax: yeah ^

your doing a great job as a gm btw ^^
So thanks for having us
AJ B. (GM): good deal, should be able to make things work and once we’re all more familiar with combat that will run smoother and more quickly as well.
Zea: So, gear wise..
AJ B. (GM): So I’ll be digging around for a 4th myself, if anyone has any friends they’d like to reccomend you’re welcome to, I make no promises on them getting past my interview process though.
Zea: Mace and pistol all the way around, 4 knives to Krem, rifle to Ambrose, e-clips to Ambrose / Krem, rifle parts to Melo, cycle key to all but Ambrose, skycycle key securely in Krem’s possession as well?
Oh hey, blind poofed.
And figure an APC key all the way around as well, but I think Melo is the only one with the related skill to drive it.?
Ceukeausraa Krem: I was gonna go ahead and split the loot IC
Zea: That works
Ceukeausraa Krem: I prefer to make high-energy fast-paced scenes feel high-energy and fast-paced. We don’t really have the time IC to split the loot, so I figure we won’t have it OOC.
And since we haven’t had any real downtime IC…y’know?
We’re about to have to make camp anyway, though, so that’s downtime, assuming this SOS thing doesn’t screw us.
Zea: yeah
I’m thinking we’ll need to go hit that SOS thing
Because I gotta be the dumb hero
Cackle H.: It’s unfortunate that I’m gonna have to murder Melo and Vault, eventually :P

Jacob R.: :3
Cackle H.: Raor.
Zea: Rawr.
Jacob R.: eek!
Cackle H.: It’s 1515. Do you know hwhere your GM is?
Yes, hwhere.
Like Cool hwhip.
Jacob R.: your eating hair

Cackle H. actually hasn’t eaten today.
Zea: makes two of us
Jacob R.: me neither. I’m starving and all we have in the house is….vegetables ;o;
Cackle H.: I thought you were a vegetarian.
Jacob R.: yeah but
No cheeeese
I love cheese.
I’ll make myself a tofu burger in a bit
Cackle H.: Also, any company whose container says “shake well” shouldn’t deliver to Colorado.
Shaking ANYTHING that’s undergone the sort of pressure difference that is involved in travelling into Colorado from anywhere just never ends well.
Like, even Pueblo, which is basically the lowest point that you can still count as being Colorado-like is nearly 5000 ft above sea level
Jacob R.: our gm seems to be missing :(
Zea: Go make foods now then
Jacob R.: I cant I lack the willpower to get up
Cackle H.: Steempy, you EEEdiot.
Jacob R.: aaaaaaajjjjjjjj
your heeere
Lets make out
AJ B. (GM): nope, I programmed an incredibly advanced AI to run the game for me, lol
Zea: Neat!
Cackle H.: That sounds like far more effort than just running the game. I call bullshit.
AJ B. (GM): yeah, you’re right, I’m far too lazy to do that.
anyhow, I have gotten some responses interested in playing I’ll be interviewing them later on. but if everyones here and ready to go we can start in a couple minutes.
Jacob R.: sure, whenever you want
Zea: Yay a 4th!
Cackle H.: Purple Monkey Dishwasher.
AJ B. (GM): I’ll take that as a ready. lol
So quick recap, you’ve terrified and robbed part of the Perth Military, driven out through a large portion of Australia, killed a flock of Cassowaries, and when we stopped you had spotted a flashing SOS signal out in the distance. (I miss anything?)
Zea: We were in the middle of a ley line, I beleve.
Oh, and there was a very clear giant pit trap not too far away.
Jacob R.: I want a cassowary.
I even painted him dammit
Cackle H.: Ceukausraa has a kill-on-sight policy regarding cassowaries.
AJ B. (GM): (Ahh yeah, the pit trap yes, near a leyline but not quite on it. I know, I seriously considered making that painting this games avatar)
Jacob R.: :3
AJ B. (GM): (Allright so you are all out near a leyline, a fairly obvious pit trap in front of you, only about halfway to your destination, off in the distance is a flashing S.O.S signal, what’s everyone doing?)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((I believe we decided we were going to check out the SOS signal.
))
Zea: (So we’re.. 3 days out, I presume? 3k mile trip, driving 16 hours a day would get is ~500 miles a day in that APC)
(And yep. SOS. And we needed to sort weapons)
AJ B. (GM): (Alright, driving or walking to the signal?)
Melo: (How far away did you say it was?)
AJ B. (GM): ((As best you can judge its around 30 miles away))

Melo is all for driving. “Krem, you wanna go get a quick aerial of that before we head over there? Can send Vault if you’d rather stay here.”
Ceukeausraa Krem: “I stored the Skycycle for a reason. There were quite a few red, flashing LEDs. Most of them centered around the engine overload. Probably should give it a while to cool off.”

Melo ahs. “Yeah. Sounds like a good plan. Well then, shall we?” Into the driver’s seat of the APC he’d go, making sure to avoid the giant hole in the ground.
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Is Australia right-hand drive? Pretty sure it’s not.))
AJ B. (GM): (Left side)
(*hand)
Melo: (…what way is up?)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((I’m assuming the giant black box is the pit trap. And the bush was right next to it.))
AJ B. (GM): (not gonna worry too much about it right now. As you head towards the signal it gets brighter as you get closer, Melo need a driving roll at a -20 from you)
Melo: rolling 1d100-20>45
(
16
)-20
= -4
AJ B. (GM): (that -is to the skill side not the roll)
Melo: (Err.. I did the math on that wrong, but that’d be a 16 vs 25, so it should pass, right?)
AJ B. (GM): (Yep,) As you draw close the flash manages to hit Melo’s helmet dead on and make sight difficult, however he does manage to keep the vehicle from going off course and pull it to a stop within walking distance of the signal. The flashing seems to prevent any sight of who or what is causing it for now.
Ambrose Betamax: (oh dear, that doesnt look like a trap )

Melo does a quick check with thermal vision, because he has that. Not likely to be effective, but its worth a glance.

Ceukeausraa Krem brings her rifle up to her shoulder. Nothing good ever came of being blinded. “Show yourself.” She demands.
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Totally ready to murder sentient cassowaries.))
AJ B. (GM): (I assume the demand is made after you’re out of the vehicle?)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Only because I don’t have heavy gun W.P. or know if the APC is equipped with one.
))

Ambrose Betamax stays in da car

Melo would likely be trying to get a good view from inside, just in case. Helmet goes on though, for sure. “Vault, see anything? Best be on guard just in case.”
Ambrose Betamax: (ambrose is sulking about the cassowaries)
AJ B. (GM): As you make your demand the signal dims quite a lot though does continue to flicker from a mirror lying on the ground. Nothing else is visible in the area aside from the usual rocks and scrub.
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((I drew the door. I seem to recall it being armoured.))

Ceukeausraa Krem would try and trace the direction the light is hitting the mirror from.

Melo slips from the car, rifle at the ready, just in case. The world is far less then friendly most of the time, after all.
Cackle H.: ((Anyone else notice that the Soundtrack to The Hobbit stomps all over the soundtrack to LotR?))

Ambrose Betamax leaves the car as well, with his own rifle ready
Melo: (Also, what kind of working rifle did we ninja? Or did Ambrose get one from the Admin guy?)
Ambrose Betamax: (I got one from admin guy)

Melo also does a very quick key check, and then locks the damned APC. Boop-beep-bwuoop.

Ceukeausraa Krem juuuuust to be safe would take careful aim at that mirror, and declare “You have to the count of three to show yourself. One.”
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Can I take that as an aiming action?))
AJ B. (GM): (sure)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Cool. That’s an extra what to aim again? This system’s combat seriously got like NO dedication in my head.))
AJ B. (GM): The mirror continues to do nothing but flicker S.O.S, though much more dimly.
Melo: (+2)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Because it’s clunky and insane.))
“Two.”
((Can I stack aiming actions?))
Melo: (Don’t think so)
AJ B. (GM): (no you can’t)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Awww. But I want a sniper shot at + a gazillionty!))
AJ B. (GM): (you can stack all kinds of different bonuses but I dont think a single same type bonus stacks in RIFTs)
(well with enough mods to your gun, body, class you could probably get it pretty high)
Melo: (I suck. I’m only at +11 on a called shot. Sage nod)
AJ B. (GM): The mirror continues to just flicker its signal, no indication it even hears you counting.
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Quick question, can I three round burst on an aimed called shot?))
Melo: (No, unless you’re a sharp shooter)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((…Seriously? So if I had your standard military assault rifle, and I was your standard military rookie, I absolutely could not aim?))
AJ B. (GM): (can’t burst on an aimed show no)
(can’t burst on an aimed shot no)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((I’m just going to ignore the fact that three-round burst was literally INVENTED for THAT REASON, and move on, here…))
AJ B. (GM): (probably for the best)

Ceukeausraa Krem would then take an action to fire on the mirror, and another 3 actions to fire three shots in an isocolese triangle around the first shot.
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((So that’s 4 skill rolls, one at skill, 2 at -2?))
((3, sorry.))
((3 at -2.))
AJ B. (GM): (correct.)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Also, the isocolese will be in a 1 foot on sides b, and 2 feet on side a. Side a will be directly below/south/whatever the first shot. If it’s relevant.))

((Oh, whoops. Inherant +1 in the rifle. So 7, 12, 2, and 2.))
Melo: (So did we just shoot the ground with a mega damage laser?)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Pretty sure yes, yes I did.))
Melo: (..And you missed shooting the ground. Twice.)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((At least.))
AJ B. (GM): You manage to shoot various spots on the ground, nowhere near where you were aiming in two cases, one shot is actually far enough away you don’t know where it hit. The shot on the mirror slams into it and vanishes, the mirror appears to be perfectly fine though is now flashing S.O.S faster
Ambrose Betamax: “this just has to be a trap…”

Melo hums. Picks up a rock and tosses it near the mirror after the display. “Right. Lets not go wasting ammo.”
AJ B. (GM): (near or at?)
Melo: (Near; within a foot or so. Underhand toss with no intent to damage it)

AJ B. (GM): The rock lands next to the mirror and rolls for a bit before coming to a stop, the mirror continues to flicker its signal.
Ambrose Betamax: (the mirror taunts us)

Melo nods. Relaxes his rifle, pulls out his pocket flash light, and attempts to return the signal. “Vault, morse for here to help?”

Ceukeausraa Krem says “Cover me.” and would creep on over to the mirror, keeping her rifle leveled, and looking around inside and the back side of the shrub.

Vault responds with reasonable quickness, “4 dots, dot, dot dash dot, dot. Dash 3 dashes. Four dots, dot, dot dash dot dot, dot dash dash dot.”

Ceukeausraa Krem also closes the door.
AJ B. (GM): The mirror suddenly stops flashing as it seems to grow darker around all of you. Krem you find nothing unusual around aside from the holes you put in the ground, and a hand mirror that appears to have been finely crafter with intricate details in its handle and surrounding the mirror itself. It appears to be a scene of Poseidon holding his trident as the handle and a group of mermaids swimming around the mirror

Ceukeausraa Krem picks up the mirror.
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Dangerous magical artifacts. In RIFTS? Nahhhh.))

Melo repockets his flash light and rereadys his rifle. “Vault, head on a swivel.”

Vault readies its weapon as well. “Acknowledged, Commander.” And with that, sensors would be.. well, actually, they’d be at their regular ‘on’ state, because he’s a robot. He kinda just does that.
AJ B. (GM): As you pick up the mirror you see your reflection in it, reacting as any normal reflection does.

Ceukeausraa Krem throws it in her pack. Could be useful later.
AJ B. (GM): The light comes back just now and the area is bathed once more in soft moonlight.

Ceukeausraa Krem heads back to the car…then gets an idea and hands it to vault. “You have an analysis on this?”
Ambrose Betamax: (is confused)

Melo unlocks the car. Bweep Bweep.

Vault accepts the device and gives it a quick scan. (I don’t think Vault has anything that’d set things off; GM’s call based on back story of any programing that’d have been added since Rifting)
Vault: It appears to be a normal hand mirror, composition is of glass, wood and ivory, carvings are done by an artisan of considerable skill with a high attention to detail. There is an impurity of an unidentified substance in the Ivory.
(To GM): Quietly attempting to cast Sense Magic as well, Helmet’s HUD / sensor suite as the focus. Page 92 book of magic.
(From Vault): No Magic sensed right now
(From AJ B. (GM)): sorry forgot to swap back
(To GM): that works!
Ceukeausraa Krem: “I’m supposing it’d be too much to ask if you could sample it for chemical composition?”

Melo laughs a bit. “Have my approval Vault.”
Vault: Apologies Ma’am but that is beyond my current capabilities without access to other equipment.

Ceukeausraa Krem shrugs and holds out her hand to put it back in the pack. It might be useful later.

Melo nods once, then looks around as he puts his rifle back in its holster. “Well, I don’t see much else here. Should we get back on the road?”

Vault would return the mirror without hesitation.
Ambrose Betamax: (ambrose hopes the mirror summons his future cassowary mount)
Ceukeausraa Krem: “I dunno. It’s getting a bit late. Don’t you think we should search the APC for any equipment that might be useful, unlikely though it may be, then make camp?”
Melo: Not gonna lie, I could due with a full night’s rest. Vault, you’re on guard duty. Full radar checks.

Melo is all for taking some time to check for the general overview of the stuff they took from the guards, checking the APC for gear.. like bedding, food, water, and that sort of stuff, as well as giving the skycycle a quick once over.
AJ B. (GM): (Alright, just a quick search or anyone got any skills they want to apply to checking the APC?)
Ambrose Betamax: checks
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((I have Detect Concealment at 58.))
((ECM also at 58))
((Extra 10% if I can touch things.))
Ambrose Betamax: I have dowsing :P
(luckily since I dont have search skills, I also have fasting)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((I also have Detect Ambush at 58 and Recognize odors at 73))
Ambrose Betamax: (Oooh I can recognize specific odors :D)
Melo: (42% Detect Concealment, rest’re gonna be repair and general equipment related)
Ambrose Betamax: (Ah, I have seduction, Dun worry I’ve got this….hay bby you got some junk in youse trunk?)
Melo: (Ha)
Ambrose Betamax: (the apc loves me now)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zt0tVwP6MA4 ))

Melo: (Testing)
(Nope!)
Ambrose Betamax: (oh)
(I’m a dumbass :P)
AJ B. (GM): As you are searching the APC Melo and Ambrose hear an explosion coming from the font of the APC and see Krem roll from between the seats to the back area as the front passenger seat lights on fire.
Ceukeausraa Krem: “I didn’t do it.”
Melo: FUCK! You alright?
Ambrose Betamax: (oh shit)

Melo attempts to put the fire out, somehow. Don’t these things have clearly marked fire extquishers?

Ceukeausraa Krem would shout “Don’t worry about me. Get that fire out!” and attempt to get to her feet to help do so.

Ambrose Betamax hurries and to find a way yo put out the fire. (did we find an extinguisher at all?
Melo: (Next action is pending a fire extinguisher)
AJ B. (GM): (yes there is a fire extinguisher)

Melo puts it to damn good use!
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Party pooper. No cake for you.))
Ambrose Betamax: (yay for having presence of mind and common sense!)

Melo once the fire goes out, turns to Ceukeausraa. “You alright? What’d you hit?” Check companions first, THEN worry about how he’s gonna have to fix the car.
AJ B. (GM): The fire is put out relatively easily without any problems. Aside from a somewhat burned up passenger seat the APC seems undamaged.
Ambrose Betamax: "Ok, so whatever you do NEVER push that button again
“that button sucks.”
(that wasnt my seat, was it?)
AJ B. (GM): (Front passenger seat? dunno was that your seat?)
Ambrose Betamax: (crap I think it was.)
Ceukeausraa Krem: “That was a rigged compartment. Dunno what was in there, though. In another I found some beef jerky, though.” She shares. She’s friendly that way.
Ambrose Betamax: “why would a random apc have a trap like that in it?”

Melo ahs, nods. “At this point, guessing not much is left in there. Jerky is a bonus, though.” He’d try and brush off the seat some, as if buffing it out before turning to munch on some jerky. “We should take a look at what those guards gave us, too.”
Ambrose Betamax: “ha. gave.”
“I’ve still got that one guards virginity.”

Ceukeausraa Krem nods, pulling out the four knives. “I’d like to keep as many of these as possible.” Next, 4 neuromaces. “I’d like to keep one of these if possible.” Next, the rifle, and 3 broken rifle…parts, anyway. Finally 4 laser pistols.

Melo nods. "I’m ok with you having the knives. Ambrose, you want one of ‘em? And I wouldn’t mind a mace. Really don’t wanna kill the guards if I can avoid it.
AJ B. (GM): (2 Q2-10 Laser Pulse Rifles, 1 missing a trigger, 2 busted up CP-40 Pulse Rifles)
Ambrose Betamax: “could I have a mace and a pistol?”
(werent there pistols?)
Melo: (Yeah, think we have 4 pistols as well)
Ambrose Betamax: (I think other than that I’m fine? I have a knife and a rifle)

Melo would o’corse take a look-see over each of the weapons; nicks, damage, keen edges, good scopes, things of that nature. (Recognize Weapon Quality checks?)
AJ B. (GM): (correct, the pistols are two “Boom Booms” ATA-003, 1Q1-01, and a C5 Pump Pistol)
(roll it)

Ceukeausraa Krem calls dibs on NOT the pump pistol.
Melo: rolling 1d100< 47

Melo would rather like the 1Q1-01 for himself, and as awesome as a boom-boom for Vault would be, the robot gets whatever is left over.

Ceukeausraa Krem is pretty sure that means Vault gets the Pump Pistol.
Ambrose Betamax: (I’m fine with anything man)
(I have a very very nice rifle)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((And dual-wielding sidearms is awesome. But you can’t do that with a pump pistol because pump pistols are crap.))
AJ B. (GM): (The weapons that aren’t busted are in relatively good condition, not perfect but about what you’d expect of a trained soldier)
Ceukeausraa Krem: 2x Boom Boom, 1x 1Q1-01 for Melo, 1x C5 Pump Pistol, 1x Q2-10 Laser Pulse Rifle, 3x parts for Melo, 4x knives for me 1x Mace for everyone, Correct?
AJ B. (GM): (correct)
Melo: (Sounds about right. The 3 busted rifles also contain e-clips that’re in working order)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((LONG e-Clips. Don’t forget.))
Melo: (Oh crap. They’ve got long clips?)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Thought so. Rifles usually have longs, pistols shorts, unless the description specifies options.))
AJ B. (GM): (he is correct long clips in all the rifles)
Melo: (Hell yeah)

Melo casually tosses Vault a mace, collects one for himself, and passes a 3rd to the deer.

Melo also would likely snag himself the laser pistol. “Been too long since I got my hands on one of these babies.”

Ceukeausraa Krem will disengage as many of the eclips as she is allowed and add them to her collection. She kinda uses more ammo than anyone else so far. She’ll take a Boom Boom for herself as the pistol.

Melo would adore one of the long clips, himself. “Ambrose, how’d they set’cha up for ammo?”
AJ B. (GM): (you guys ok with a potential sitting in and observing?)
Melo: (100% A-OK with me!)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Preferred, actually.))
AJ B. (GM): (please remind me how to get the link for him to join)
(nm found it)
(Welcome Cody)
Cody M.: (Hi)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Howdy.))
Melo: (Welcome and hello!)
Ambrose Betamax: ^^

Melo settles into stripping the CP-40’s down as best he can, as well as the triggerless Q2, to see what he can do about getting them to work. Hopefully the trigger and barrel survived the gun that was kicked.

Vault continues to stand watch, as ordered.
AJ B. (GM): (btw, as for the rest of the apc, you found 5 sleeping bags, rations for three weeks)
Melo: (YAY! Sleeping bags! And FOOD!)
Ambrose Betamax: (and a fire extinguisher :3)
(nice icon btw cody)
(can I have one eclip?)
Melo: (I’m totally cool with it)
Cody M.: (thanks)
AJ B. (GM): (alright so you guys were planning to set up camp, and Melo is apparently going to use some of it to mess with the guns and try and fix them. Anyone else planning to do anything before turning in for the evening?)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Sorry, was finishing updating my inventory list. I’m good.))
Ambrose Betamax: (I’m goodz)
Melo: (If no one takes it, I’ll give the working rifle to Vault? Any objections?)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Nope. Should be noted I wound up with 2 e-clips given that only two were claimed.))
Melo: (Yep! Likely gonna end up giving one of my standard ones to Vault for the rifle)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Then let’s progress.))
AJ B. (GM): After a rather uneventful night you awake to the sound of something birds calling and the early morning sounds of an Australlian morning
(To GM): need an armorer roll to try and get 1 or 2 working guns and one bit of spare parts?

Ceukeausraa Krem sighs and rouses. “Well, the country’s awake. We should probably follow if we don’t intend on being eaten by it.”
AJ B. (GM): (alright, to get the one with the trigger running a straight armorer roll, to get the one missing its barrel working a roll at -30, to fix the stomped one -40, and itd be the only one you fixed.)
Melo: (Going for trigger, then busted barrel)

(Yeah. No chance on the busted barrel. But hey, spare parts!)
AJ B. (GM): Well you managed to repair the trigger without any issue, the other one you tried but just couldn’t get it to hold.

Melo honestly is generally pleased with himself. A second working rifle is good trade, and the extra parts can be played with. Already he’d have cleared the chaff from the wheat and gotten the parts orginized in one of the compartments in the APC before getting his sleep. As for the working gun? Other side of his backpack it’d go. Waking would be done with any of that left over jerky, some water, and fireing up that APC. “C’mon baby. Lets get a move on.”

Ceukeausraa Krem had kinda assumed she’d slept in the APC. Fuck Australia.

Melo for sure would have passed out inside the car, properly locked and secured.
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((It was deadly enough BEFORE the RIFTS >.>))
AJ B. (GM): (Ambrose, are you deranged enough to sleep outside?)
Ambrose Betamax: (no?)

Ambrose Betamax gets in the apc and gets to the important duty of resting)
AJ B. (GM): (lol didnt thing so. ok so everyone slept in the APC then, whoevers driving I need two driving rolls from you.)

AJ B. (GM): Alright, you continue along on your journey seeing various australian wildlife, including flock of Cassowary apparently fleeing in the opposite direction of your travels)
Ambrose Betamax: (aaw.)
Melo: Vault, tourist guide mode, until someone gripes about it
Vault: I’m sorry, Commander? Could you clarify that statement?
Melo: You know, tell us about the creatures we’re seeing. ‘And on your left, you’ll see a rock. And on your right, you’ll see 36 trees of the pine family.’
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Pine? You’re thinking Colorado.))
Vault: Acknowledged, Commander." And with that, the robot would settle into pointing out things that he saw. More or less, look out mode, but with some general biology thrown in. And lots of rocks.
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Speaking of, did you ever notice how many aspens and ponderosas are in Kansas in Westerns? You know, trees that only grow above 4000 feet?))
AJ B. (GM): As you continue on your current course you come upon what the Cassowaries were probably running from. A giant stone man (his foot is about the size of your APC) who seems to be actively seeking out wild life and stepping on it.
Ambrose Betamax: “oh. shit….uh…right.”
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Shayle Cadash?))
Ambrose Betamax: “quickly, we need to save the cassowaries!”
Ceukeausraa Krem: “No, no we don’t.”
“Can we go around?”

Melo would hope that Vault would have pointed said giant a long time before their path got near. Failing that, you know, maybe he’d spot said giant long before the danger point. If so, casual driving would ensue to go around. Its not like that crawler could move fast.
AJ B. (GM): (yeah you aren’t near enough to be threatened by it, both you and vault would have seen it long before that point, and provided no one interferes you’re able to easily go around the giant who doesnt seem to even notice your APC)

Melo drives around the treat, nice and safe like.
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((It’d be great if the sourcebooks made it clear exactly how much pre-war knowledge most people had in a consistent manner…or did anything in a consistent manner.))
AJ B. (GM): (yes it would, lol) Alright you make it around the Giant with no trouble and continue on your way.
Vault: Directly ahead of us you will see a large pair of boulders with ditches dug to the left and right of them creating only a single path to travel through.
Ceukeausraa Krem: “Thanks. Very informative.”
AJ B. (GM): Melo another driving roll at -10 if you please, it’s looking like itd be a tight fit for the APC

Melo slows the APC down. “Someone want to man the guns, just in case? Vault, gimmie a quick visual sweep, you see anything on the other spectrums?” And he’d o’corse check thermals himself.
Melo: rolling 1d100< 45

(That’d be a fail. For sure)
Ambrose Betamax: (I just realized I’m asleep so I dont actually know about the giant stone thingie)

Ceukeausraa Krem doesn’t have heavy gun WP. Doubts Ambrose does either. She’d lean out the window with her JA-9, though.
Vault: (I was under the assumption you all woke up when the driving started lol)
Nothing unusual detected on the ground commander. Radar has detected to humanoid sized objects about 300 ft in the air.
Ambrose Betamax: (O.o)
Melo: ( https://www.dropbox.com/s/6njmnuz8jsvgu09/Vault-as-a-tour-guide.wav )
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((To or two?))
((Huge difference.))
AJ B. (GM): (two)
Melo: Thank you Vault. All hands on deck, we’re likely gonna be hit from above, and hard. Dawns his helmet and preps his trusty LGR

Ceukeausraa Krem nods. “Foreknowledge is a significant edge, as always. Let’s throw ‘em off guard now. There’s only two of them.” She’d open the door, and take position behind it as before, steadying her aim with the frame. “Leave now, and you don’t have to die.”
Ambrose Betamax: (arent the 300 feet up? can they hear you?)

Ceukeausraa Krem would of course be aiming upwards and crouching to minimize her profile even from the air.
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((No idea. Didn’t even yell it.))
((Doubtful though.))

Melo would likely take up a similar stance on the other side of the APC (Provided he didn’t ditch the damned thing and wedge his door shut!). A thermal scan would be used to try and pick the targets out if direct visual didn’t pick them up right off the bat.
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((I’ve still got 24 rounds in my JA-9’s current eClip, too. 4 on the mirror, 2 on the guard, right?))
AJ B. (GM): Alright, as Melo attempts to drive through the rocks he manages to get the APC up on some smaller rocks on the left causing it to lean to the right and wedge between the rocks. As the scraping sound echoes out you see two humans descending towards you. One appears to be chanting and waving his hands.
Ambrose Betamax: (I’d aim for that one :P)

Ceukeausraa Krem would of course open fire on the chanting one if she could do so.

Melo aims! “Vault, threat assessment!” Not like he needed it. And then over his loud-speaker, “Stand down or we’ll take you down!” Because everyone loves an 80db boost, right?
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Initiative?))
Ambrose Betamax: (I guess technically they havent done anything aggressive yet)
AJ B. (GM): (you guys were fully prepared so, you all get one round of free shots before initiative)

Melo will o’corse wait for a moment for the treat assessment even as Krem opened fire. Damn him and his still peaceful ways.

Ceukeausraa Krem would take aim and fire at the chanting guy once…twice…then just fire, in that instance.

Melo again shouts up at them, helmet-mega-phone cranked. “Stand down!” Though that laser targeting scope would be his next option, aiming for the eyes. After all, lasers blind people, right?

Ceukeausraa Krem has exhausted all her initiative actions.
(To GM): Quick range check: Still out of range of blinding flash, correct?
(From AJ B. (GM)): range on that?
Melo: (60ft away, 10 ft sphere at that point)
(To GM): yeah, that, but whispered.
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((What?))
(From AJ B. (GM)): yeah still out of range
Melo: (I fail at copy and paste, don’t mind me)

Melo: (Aimed shots are 2 actions each)

The third shot fails to find its mark on his hand but does slam through his chest burning a hole through it. The second man immediately raises his hands high over his head and remains still aside from continuing to descend.
The corpse of the other man is falling quickly

Melo: (What I should have done was roll to hit each time, and STOP when his hand vanishes)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Whereas I don’t care, so I clustercall :P))
Melo: (Live and learn, my fault to deal with the remorse)

Melo almost-flinches as his third shot misses.. But at least it would make that impact on the ground hurt far less. “Vault, keep your aim on him, lets take him in.”
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((And that is all 3 of us, so their initiative. Unless him raising his hands and doing nothing IS his action.))
((Oh, right. Robot. Who cares about robots?))
((Something something soulless machine something something don’t get rights.))
AJ B. (GM): He continues to descend until he touches down on the ground and whimpers “Please Don’t shoot.”

Ceukeausraa Krem would move to check exactly how dead the arm-waving guy was.

Vault approaches, weapon drawn and aimed. “Unauthorized personnel, you will disarm yourself and lay prone. State your name, rank, and purpose for being here.”

Melo would just as readily keep a bead on the man. “You’ve surrended. Not gonna take you out if I don’t have to. Had you two stopped when I told you to, your friend might still be breathing. Now, who are you, and what are you doing out here?”
AJ B. (GM): The man looks at the robot then looks confused before simply lying on the ground. “My name is Jim, I dont have a rank, we were scrounging for supplies.”
Melo: Vault, search him. And just who’s the corpse over there, and what was he doing? What supplies were you looking for, just waiting to show up here, huh?
AJ B. (GM): “His name is, ahh fuck I dont know his name, he kept insisting on being called Dagon, something about an old book he found. He was casting something, knowing him something nasty. He liked fear spells, make people run off into the wilderness. We were looking for anything that might help us survive out here.”

Vault searches the man “Commander this man is completely unarmed and lacking anything but rags on his person”

Melo nods at Vault’s comments. “Alright son, you can stand up. guess I don’t feel so bad then. At the least, can make sure you’ve got some food and water. Think you’ll be able to do with a bit of freedom on your own?”
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((You’re from before the war. NOTHING about the Dagon comment?))
Melo: (I’m gonna say he didn’t read much Lovercraft in school)
AJ B. (GM): He shrugs and slowly stands up. “ummm thanks, I’ll do what I can, don’t suppose you have any ideas on how to get around 5,000 credits together though do you?” His tone seems very hopeful on those last two words.
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Nobody did. We all read it after graduating.))
Melo: (He went right into boot camp after graduating)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((And then straight to the War?))
Melo: (More like straight into the ER, and then war (Its a little fuzzy, that chain of events..) and then the rifts)
Ceukeausraa Krem: “Why?”

Melo shook his head, relaxing his aim enough to put his rifle away on his back. “Nope. Why you need funds like that? Vault, go get him two days water rations, a sleeping bag, and at least two days food out of my share, would’ja?” and back to Jim. “You got a place near by you were staying at? And you find anything worth grabbing on the scum bag?” To Krem.
Ceukeausraa Krem: "Hadn’t checked too thoroughly, honestly. He doesn’t seem to have much, though..
"
Melo: (I found a giant hole in his chest!)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((I did find that.))
AJ B. (GM): He mutters “Melbourne, I need to get in there. They only let the wealthy in though, you either need to be able to bribe the guards or pay the Admin filing fee. The fee just pays for them to check your history and let you stay a week though. Bribery at least can get you in without a record. Just have to avoid being thrown out.”
Melo: Really now? And you say its five kay a pop to get in? That fer the filing fees, or the bribes?
Ceukeausraa Krem: “You might be better off heading to Perth. We just came from there, didn’t seem to be near that sort of hostility.”
AJ B. (GM): He laughs bitterly “Do I seem like the kind of guy who could make an honest living in the city to you?” He looks over at Krem and his eyes widen, “Really, I had heard they charged three times as much and shot any strangers on site?”
Ceukeausraa Krem: “…Well, we did kind of murder everyone in our way.” She coughs.
“On the bright side, the gate guards are dead. You should have no trouble getting through.”
“Then again, they may have replaced them by now…”
AJ B. (GM): His shoulders slump and he sighs heavily. “If they haven’t yet they will be by the time I make it there. Perth’s a long ways away.”

Melo raises a hand as if to speak, then sighs in exasperation and shakes his head. “Still, you’d be far better off trying to make your way there. Might recommend cleaning yourself up if you can. Or hell, tell ’em you rifted in two days out. Seemed to work for us.”
AJ B. (GM): He nods and takes the stuff that vault has brought out then thanks all of you. “I appreciate this greatly, may your kindness return to you tenfold.” He then begins walking and chanting as he heads off.

Melo calls after the man shortly, “Any idea where that man kept that book?” An answer would be met with a ‘thanks’ and either way would be met with a ‘good luck’. And then he’d go to try and get the APC off of its high center, grumbling about his own bad driving.
AJ B. (GM): He yells back. “Its under a rock five miles east. That’s all he ever told me.”
(Going to try and get it out with more driving or get it out first then drive it?)

Ceukeausraa Krem would assist in helping to get the APC unstuck.
Melo: (In the outback, they’d commonly have ramps and such for getting things out of soft sands and the like;I presume that they’d have something similar to use to get this one out?)
AJ B. (GM): (they would but Im not sure what your plan is for using that to deal with this)
(yes my artistic skills are shit, but what you currently have is a slightly propped up apc thats wedged between two boulders)
Melo: (Possible leaver. Or likely need to try and reverse it and hope them tracks’re beefy)
Ambrose Betamax: (we have mega damage weapons…can we just blast one of the boulders?)
AJ B. (GM): (that is also an option)
Melo: (Man.. I’ve got a problem.)
(Oh. that’s easy. Shoot it!)
(But.. I didn’t tell you what my problem is yet!)
(So? Shooting fixes EVERYTHING!)
-Book of the murder hobo
AJ B. (GM): (rocks are under most circumstances not mega damage anything)
(so let me know what plan you guys are going to go with to get the APC free)
Melo: (I gotta admit, it IS a good idea)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((APCs don’t have tracks, usually.))
Melo: (One we stole does)

Ceukeausraa Krem power punches the rocks to conserve ammo.
Melo: Hey Vault, go cut us an extra few feet with your blade, would you?
Vault: Acknowledged, Commander.
Ceukeausraa Krem: (( http://www.military-today.com/apc/stryker_l3.jpg ))
Vault: (Aus book, pdf page 216)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((…Why? Treaded APCs are all friggin’ antiques. Type 73, old as dirt. M113? Old as dirt. And here I am arguing with Kevin “The Expert on Everything Forever” Siembada again.))
((Just gonna move right along.))
Melo: (In this case, I’m jus’ going with what the GM listed as the ACP we ninja’d)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Again. Kevin’s an idiot. No news there. Moving on.))
((K200A1 is an antique too. MOVING ON! Also, brb, hit Page Down and Roll20 derped.))
AJ B. (GM): (Alright between Vault and Krem you manage to get the APC free without any ammor expenditure, and although scraped up it doesnt look like it suffered any major damage. You are currently about 3/4 of the way to your destination)

Cackle H. hops back in the APC. “Cool beans.”

Melo is quite tempted to go after that book, though the likelyhood of him finding it are slim to nil.
Cackle H.: ((We can find it. We have the technology.))

Ambrose Betamax gets back to sleeping in the apc (I’d at least look for it if its only 5 miles off anyways)
Melo: You guys mind if we take a minor detour, see if we can’t find the book that corpse was talking about? Paper alone might buy us a ticket into the city.

Melo doesn’t believe that for a second, mind you. But a book! An honest to god book!
Ambrose Betamax: (watch it be the call of cthullhu D20 book)
Melo: (Ha)

Ceukeausraa Krem shrugs. “I’d be willing to spend an hour or two searching.”
Melo: Hour or two it is. Lets roll out.

Melo fires up the APC again, with its comforting eletric whine that melts into a low hum, and off he’d go, in search of a rock that stands out in a desolate waste land full of rocks and trees and wild life that wants to eat them alive. He also makes an effort to watch out for giants. “Vault, standard lookout duty.”
AJ B. (GM): (driving roll please)
Melo: rolling 1d100< 45

AJ B. (GM): You ease the APC out of its space and head off five miles to the east, when you get there you find that there are 5 concentric circles of stones starting with a boulder easily twice your height and going down by about a quarter of the previous set of rocks size as it spreads out.
Ceukeausraa Krem: “Well. That narrows it down considerably.”
Melo: Ayep.
Ambrose Betamax: (is there a middle rock?)
AJ B. (GM): (yep, that big ass boulder is dead center of the “bulls eye”)
Ambrose Betamax: (probs that one :P)
Melo: (How big is the circle?)
Ceukeausraa Krem: “I’m guessing it’s that one, then.” She’d point to the big one.
Ambrose Betamax: (hay you stole ambroses brainthought! meanie)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Lrn 2 IC.))
AJ B. (GM): (the widest circle is a mile in diameter)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((…Seriously?))
((Holy shit. This guy had REALLY powerful magic, or a lot of time on his hands.))
Ambrose Betamax: (we could spend a few days and checkALL the rocks)
AJ B. (GM): (well he’s kinda dead so itd be difficult to ask him which)
Ambrose Betamax: (my guess its under the big one, citing generations of storytelling cliche)

Ceukeausraa Krem would get out of the APC, assuming it’s stopped, and power punch the ‘bullseye’.
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((We could still ask his friend.))

Melo would stop quite willingly, to see what happens. Helmet goes back on, yep.
AJ B. (GM): The rock crumbles and you find a single dead snake under it.
Ambrose Betamax: (crud.)
(To GM): Know full well how unlikely it is to find anything, but how many, if any, circles would I be able to check with a detect magic?
Ambrose Betamax: (I guess we start searching around?)

Ceukeausraa Krem shouts to Melo “Is this it?”

Ceukeausraa Krem holds up the dead snake.
(To GM): 120 ft area, pg 92 book of magic

Melo laughs. “No, dun think so. Good eating though.”
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Not as good as gator. Or even scorpion.))

Ambrose Betamax starts looking around for dramatic plot devices, the sort spellcasters tend to use. Spellcasters love a good plot device.

Ceukeausraa Krem found the plot device. It’s the dead snake.
Ambrose Betamax: (hey, they do, there’s probably a secret lever or a talking giant sand lion head around here somewhere)

Ceukeausraa Krem digs under the dead snake’s former location just a foot or two.
(From AJ B. (GM)): whats the duration?
(To GM): 2 min / level. Willing to cast it a few times if need be.
AJ B. (GM): You find a set of six eggs buried under the snake.
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Is there a Take 20 mechanic in RIFTS?))
(From AJ B. (GM)): could probably walk and check the whole thing in 3 casts
Ceukeausraa Krem: “Well. Dinner and breakfast. Awesome.”
(To GM): 3 casts it is!
AJ B. (GM): (sadly no, the closest you get is if a skill is high enough the DM just giving it to you)
Ceukeausraa Krem: “Anyone have any tabasco peppers? Jalapenos? Frying oil and breadcrumbs? Anything?”

Melo casually starts to walk the circle, looking attentively about.
AJ B. (GM): (honestly if somethings up to 70 or so and theres no failure penalty/something you could take multiple checks Id likely just give it to you)
Vault: I believe there are some basic oils in the rations you discovered.
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Mmmm. Now I want to go to Texas Roadhouse and order some rattlesnake bites.))
(From AJ B. (GM)): you don’t detect any magic here at all
(To GM): Thank you.
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((I’m just gonna roll a shitton of detect concealments for the next 2 hours. I give up on logic.))
((skill is 58.))
Ambrose Betamax: (I’m just gonna hide a bunch of random crap for him to find)

Melo will join in the searching of concealed things, with a skill of 42..!
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((I’m going to beat the shit out of a deer if I catch him.))

Ambrose Betamax examines some rocks that have a chalk X drawn on them.
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((With a neuromace.))
Ambrose Betamax: “uh…guys? I think I found a wizardly plot device…uh except its not all magical and sparkly.”
“oh krem, would you grab my glasses? I think they’re under that rock”
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Where’d you get the chalk to draw an X on the rocks?))
Ambrose Betamax: “No no look, every five roxs there’s an X on.”
“I dont have nearly enough chalk.”
Melo: Vault, database check. Give me a search on Dagon, see what you can turn up, would’ja?

Melo would also pull out his pocket PC and do a similar search, just in case there’s something hidden in there.

Ambrose Betamax would uh….wonder whats with all these X’s, since he doesnt have any cool gadgets
Vault: Dagon: Lovecraftian Myth, Progenitor of Deep Ones, believed to be some kind of seamonster or water dragon. No records of actual existence. Often associated with the number three.
Ambrose Betamax: (Aj, do I have the brainpower or skills to deduce what these X’s are for?)

Melo perks, “Alright. Any cross reference with the number 5? Lets head on out to the 3rd ring.” Walking or driving would happen, depending on distance.
AJ B. (GM): (what’s your characters IQ at?)
Ambrose Betamax: (16)
Melo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFzdIaBnckg

Melo: (Yay for 5’s!)
AJ B. (GM): You’re pretty certain that the Xs were drawn because someone just got bored.
Ambrose Betamax: “hmm. someone had a lot of time on their hands I guess. oh well.”
Vault: Checking for references to 5. No known association with 5s.
Ambrose Betamax: (rl me is flailing his arms in the air)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((3*5=15!))
Ambrose Betamax: (15 whats?)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((So check the number 21st ring!))
Ambrose Betamax: (eeer.)
(thats very da vici code:P)
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Or, we take 3, in base 5, and we get….8!))
((That must be it. It’s clearly a base 5 number system.))
Ambrose Betamax: (I’m gonna try bartering with one of the rocks. it must be some form of intelligent life)
AJ B. (GM): (one with an x on it or not?)
Ambrose Betamax: (with an X)
AJ B. (GM): (feel free to start talking IC to the rocks at any time)
Ambrose Betamax: “hallo, uh, rock.”

Melo would check the 3rd ring with Vault in tow, for any thing that looks like it mighta been disturbed, otherwise he’d check for the largest stone, and 3rd largest stone.
Ambrose Betamax: “wanna buy a refridgerator?”

Melo oh gods. “The sun’s getting to him.”
AJ B. (GM): The rock seems to be ignoring you Ambrose
Ambrose Betamax: “damn, its like talking to a brick rock”
HALLLOOOO ROCKS
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Sure it’s not a rock wall?))
AJ B. (GM): The largest and third larget rock are each one off from an X rock Melo. Under them you find a credstick, and a smaller rock.
(each one respectively)

Melo oos, yay for cred-sticks!
AJ B. (GM): The deers words echo and you all hear a low growling noise echo back from somewhere off in the distance.

Ambrose Betamax checks under a bunch of X rocks, in an attempt to get their attention for bartering" look, clearly you have cooling needs, I mean its so hot down here under you"

Ceukeausraa Krem is gonna go take a nap in the APC.
AJ B. (GM): (Ambrose, roll me three d20s)

Melo also checks under the smaller rock, following standard protocal of lifting it facing away from him. Then blinks. “Uh.. That might not have been a bad noise. Vault, what’d’we’ve?”

Ceukeausraa Krem is pretty sure by now we’ve spent 2 OOC hours on this, much less 2 IC ones :P

Ambrose Betamax stops at one rock. (I mean look, at least you could use some AC to keep this book cool, its gonna get all modly and gross like this, leather does that."

Ambrose Betamax gets bored and starts reading the book
AJ B. (GM): (Is Ambrose literate?)
Ambrose Betamax: (I dunno O.o)
Melo: (I don’t think your race or vagabon gets literacy innately)
AJ B. (GM): (yeah then probably not going to be actually reading the book. but could always look at the pictures)
Ambrose Betamax: (aaw.)
AJ B. (GM): (Very few people in RIFTs are literate honestly.)

Melo Eventually returns. “Uh.. hey. Where’d you find that?”

Ambrose Betamax under this rock. He clearly doesnt take care of his library, I mena look at this foxing."
Ambrose Betamax: (er)
(in quotes)

Melo Nods. “Good ‘nuff. Lets get back on the road. Think that’s what we were here for. Good job.”

Ceukeausraa Krem isn’t literate either.

Ceukeausraa Krem shhh.

Ceukeausraa Krem speaks ’Merican just fine though. And Faeriefolk. Which she fully intends to use for no reason.

Melo would return to the APC, after hopefully prodding the deer along. “Mind if I have Vault take a look over that thing?”
Ambrose Betamax: …“can I have it back? I like the pictures.”
Melo: As long as he says there’s no harm in it. The book, I mena."

Ceukeausraa Krem mutters ""
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Oh BITE ME, roll20. Eat a dick.))

Ceukeausraa Krem mutters “Ymm dryd vun cusa cdibet…funt-byban.”
Ambrose Betamax: “I also read playboy for the pictures.”
“but no one believes me”
Melo: Son, have you ever SEEN a PlayBoy?

Vault quickly looks through the book and states “Lovecraftian derivative, work of fiction about a cult. Made from common paper, bound in leather of indeterminate origin. Nothing harmful of note.”
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((It’s literally a book.))
Ambrose Betamax: (oh so the guy was founding future scientology. ok.)

Melo chuckles, nods. “Still worth the trip. ’S a book. Yeah, you can have it back. Make sure no harm comes to it?” And back on the road they go.
Ceukeausraa Krem: ((Well. Scientology is strictly Sci-Fi. Lovecraft is more Sci-Fi horror.))
